My 7 Links

by Mike on August 24, 2011

my7linksI just read about an innovative Blog project on Bible Money Matters called My 7 Links. The original idea came from The Tripbase Blog. The concept is simple, link to a post in your blog from each of the categories below, then nominate 5 other blogs to do the same. Let’s spread this far & wide! This is supposed to be as inclusive as possible…there is no winner for the most voted blog, so if you see one of your nominees already listed, try to think of someone else.

I kind of cheated…I didn’t wait for a nomination to join in. I hope Tripbase doesn’t mind!

Update:
Peter from Bible Money Matters gave me an unofficial 6th nomination…guess I’m legal now!

My 7 Links

Most Beautiful Post

My most Beautiful post would have to be about the most beautiful event to happen in my life so far. That is My First Post as a DINK (Dual Income – No Kids). It was the first post I published after my wedding. Nothing about the post was meant to be exceptionally beautiful, it is more of a reminder of how blessed I am and how event-FULL 2010 was for me. I also appreciate the beautiful comments, emails and well wishes I received.

Your Most Popular Post

According to stats, my most popular post was Comparing Crown & Financial Peace University. It was a side by side comparison of 2 very popular programs used by churches to help people get on track (and stay on track) financially.

Your Most Controversial Post

The most controversial was Bringing Snacks into a Movie Theater: Frugal or Unethical? I’ve often seen it recommended to bring your own snacks to save money at the movies. While this could add up to significant savings, it is against the rules. Many deem this practice justifiable due to the high mark-up at the concession stands. Other’s see it as crossing the line. I voiced my opinion and allowed others to share their’s.
Your Most Helpful Post

7 Ways to Prevent Overdraft Fees generated a lot of search traffic. Also, I’ve probably received the most emails from readers based on this post.

A Post Who’s Success Surprised You
A guest post that I included as part of my Deal or Frill series generated way more traffic and discussion than I thought. In fact, this post broke my previous record for highest daily views: Angel Food Ministries (Deal or Frill)

A Post You Feel Didn’t Get The Attention It Deserved

The Manners & Money series didn’t generate as much traffic or attention as I had originally thought. Topics covered during the series (tipping, re-gifting, splitting checks) usually generate a lot of discussion.

The Post You Are Most Proud Of

I was more proud of the action and the financial savings than the actual post. I explained How a 5 Minute Phone Call is going to save me $324/yr. It’s a real life example of how taking the time to research and ask the right questions can result in significant savings.

My 7 Links Nominations

As I stated above, this project is all about including various blogs. They don’t have to be in your niche. Here are my 5 nominations!

Punch Debt in the Face – Stick figures and Personal Finance….you can’t go wrong

Christian Personal Finance – One of the first Bible based finance blogs I started reading

Debt Free Adventure – Another one of the first Bible based finance blogs I started reading

Paneh Praise Dance & Mime Ministry – My dance & worship arts blog

Company Keepers: Dance Ministry Talk – Relevant articles to dance ministers & worship artists

Are you going to participate in the 7 links project or have you already? Let me know in the comments…and feel free to leave a link to your 7 Links post.

Pete,

I was a very close call between the snacks in movies, and a post on tithing. Both brought out a lot of great discussion.

It’s funny that the most controversial post is about bringing snacks into a theater. I wrote a list about how to save during the summer months, and a couple of points were about saving at the movies. I mentioned that tip and it’s amazing how some people feel so strongly about that topic.
